Steve Cooper explains why Nottingham Forest signed 'excellent' Wayne Hennessey

Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper believes that goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey will bring a wealth of experience and add character to the dressing room after completing a transfer from Burnley.

The 35-year-old made just three appearances in his single season at the club, which saw then relegated to the Championship, and the Reds become one of three clubs replacing them in the Premier League. Despite rarely featuring in recent seasons, Hennessey has racked up more than 180 appearances in the top-flight across spells at Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Born in Bangor, the veteran goalkeeper has represented Wales more than 100 times and played a part at the last two European Championships. After keeping a clean sheet against Ukraine in their World Cup qualifying play-off final, Hennessey will be hoping to again receive the call ahead of this year's tournament.

Cooper believes Hennessey will be a "very strong addition" at the City Ground. “Wayne is an excellent goalkeeper who has proven himself at the highest level over many years,” Cooper is quoted as saying on the club's official website.

“He’s helped Wales reach new heights in the international game, and he has a wealth of Premier League experience. However, Wayne is also a great character, and he is a very strong addition to the Nottingham Forest dressing room.”
