Everything’s going according to script for Sterling K. Brown.
The three-time Emmy winner is focusing on film roles following his six years as Randall Pearson on NBC’s “This Is Us,” which aired its final episode in May.
“I like film right now,” Brown told the Daily News. “I love the variety of opportunities to play different characters after having played one character for six years. I wouldn’t be opposed to some limited series, because you can do a season and fully explore a character and then make room for something else.
“Maybe a few years down the road, when my family gets tired of me jumping from place to place ... I would come back to doing another series. I think 10 to 13 episodes would be lovely, because then it still affords you the opportunity to play in other sandboxes, which I think is really important to me.”
Brown has a new movie arriving in theaters and on Peacock on Friday with “Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul,” which stars the actor as a megachurch pastor embroiled in a scandal. His other films include “Black Panther” and “Frozen II.”
Brown has ventured into producing in recent years as well, including on “Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul.” He is a producer and star of the upcoming drama film “The Defender,” and is also producing the action movie “Shadow Force” led by Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Kerry Washington.
“With each project, you’re going to have to spend time talking to people about why you did it,” Brown said.
“You want to have an answer and a justification for why you stand behind that message, that show, that story, and why you think it’s of value to be put out into the universe. It’s nice to have a bit more control or input in terms of what it is that I’m going to be doing.”
