Steps to follow if your concert has been cancelled, postponed or rescheduled

The coronavirus pandemic looks set to almost be behind us which means events we once enjoyed can be experienced fully again.

Whether it's a concert, theatre show, gig or another live experience, we love a good show and spend thousands each year booking these events.

Many shows have been cancelled or postponed over the last year due to the uncertainty surrounding Covid-19 with some artists and bands taking it upon themselves to let ticket-goers know of their change of plans.

But if this does happen are you guaranteed that the event will be rescheduled or if not that you'll get your money back? And what if the new rescheduled date is no good for you - what happens then?

These are often the questions that many event-goers are facing and have faced in the last 12 months.

And with various ticket sites and ways of booking experiences in the UK being made available, it can be hard to keep track of each site's individual terms and conditions.

To save you the time and energy of trawling through the sites to get a definite answer we have compiled a handy list below of frequently asked questions when it comes to changes in event bookings.

Scroll down for all the important information you'll need from some of the most popular ticketing sites including Ticketmaster, Live Nation, See Tickets and The Ticket Factory.

For more sites such as Skiddle, GigsandTours, eventim, eventbrite, and more, see their individual websites or go to the FAQ or contact page for support and advice. All below information is correct at the time of writing.

Ticketmaster

Ticketmaster say they work on letting all ticketholders know if their event has been cancelled or rescheduled as soon as venues or promoters inform them.

They say those who have booked an event via Ticketmaster, which then has been cancelled, won't need to do anything as they will automatically be refunded their order.

They'll refund you the face value of the tickets and you'll see a credit onto your card after they've emailed you about the cancellation with a timescale (usually within 15 days).

If your card has expired since booking the event or has changed and the money still hasn't appeared within 15 days then Ticketmaster say to contact your card issuer.

When events are rescheduled Ticketmaster say they will contact event-goers regarding new dates and if tickets will be carried over.

Sometimes the venue or promoter announce things first via social media but Ticketmaster say they can't contact ticket-goers until information is officially confirmed via their end.

You can expect contact from Ticketmaster via text and email, depending on your contact details on your account or order.

Check the status of your event with Ticketmaster via event status updates here.

The only time you can't get a refund or exchange is if your event is going ahead on the date originally planned. If this occurs Ticketmaster suggest selling your tickets to another fan instead via their Ticket Exchange - find out more about that here.

However, there is a 24-hour cooling off period.

This means you can cancel and refund, or exchange your order if you change your mind within 24 hours of booking with Ticketmaster. There are a few things that aren’t covered by the guarantee though, so be sure to check here.

If you've booked travel and hotel tickets to go along with your event, then unfortunately you won't get this refunded via Ticketmaster.

A Ticketmaster spokesperson said: "We'll always try to let you know as soon as we're told about an event changing or cancellation to give you the opportunity to cancel your arrangements, if possible.

"The event organisers won't cancel or reschedule an event unless they really have to, but it's always worth keeping in mind that things can sometimes change last minute."

Live Nation

Live Nation Entertainment is made up of four market leaders: Ticketmaster, Live Nation Concerts, Artist Nation Management and Live Nation Media/Sponsorship.

They say they cannot exchange, refund or transfer tickets unless the event in question has been cancelled or rescheduled. This is part of the purchase policy ticketholders agree to when purchasing tickets through Live Nation.

Live Nation will notify those who hold tickets to their events if that event has been cancelled or re-scheduled. If you already received tickets and your event is then cancelled you may need to return (if have physical copies) before a refund is completed.

Refunds will only be made to the person who purchased the tickets.

They say they will refund the face value of the ticket but not any hospitality arrangements such as travel or hotel packages that have been booked separately.

When buying tickets through Live Nation, the site will send you a confirmation email of your order within 72 hours. For standard tickets, you may receive your tickets up to seven days before the event. If your tickets have not arrived seven days before the event, please contact your ticket seller.

To find out more visit Live Nation here.

See Tickets

See Tickets have tickets for James Morrison's latest tour (UGC)

See Tickets say if the event you have booked for has been rescheduled you will receive an email to confirm this with details of the new date.

A See Tickets spokesperson said: "If you would like to attend the new date the good news is you do not need to do anything!

"If you have the tickets then keep hold of them and use them for the new date.

"If you have not yet received the tickets they will be sent nearer the time of the new date. You can track your order here."

Ticketholders who cannot attend a new rearranged date and would like a refund instead will need to use See Ticket's online contact form here to request one.

Those who have received tickets in the post may need to return them for See Tickets to process the refund. If this is the case, details of how to return the tickets and the refund deadline can be found in the email.

If the event you have booked for has been cancelled, you will receive an email to confirm this and the details of the refund.

Refunds are usually the face value costs of the tickets and are automatically credited back to the original source of payment, and will take 28 working days to clear.

If there are any issues refunding you, See Tickets will contact you via email for new details.

See Tickets say they can only let customers know of the new date / location once they receive official confirmation from the organisers of the event.

The Ticket Factory

The Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour kicks off this month and tickets are available via Ticket Factory (neil reading pr)

Ticket Factory say they continue to closely monitor the advice of World Health Organisation (WHO), Public Health England (PHE) and Local Government in relation to COVID-19.

A spokesperson said: "The threat of the virus has impacted many events and if you are planning to visit any shows in the near future, it’s best to continue to check our website for the very latest information."

The Ticket Factory say if your event has been cancelled due to Covid-19 then they will be in touch to confirm when your refund will be processed and what action you'll need to take, if any.

Refunds will be automatically processed within 14 days.

Ticket Factory are unfortunately unable to refund postage fees where tickets have already been dispatched, as well as any ticket protection purchased through The Ticket Factory.

If your event has been rescheduled your original tickets will remain valid for the new date and the ticket site will be in touch via email with further details.

If your event has been postponed this means the event organisers are currently in the process of finding a new date that the event can go ahead. In this instance, Ticket Factory advise to please keep your tickets and await further information.

If you are having to self-isolate for the event and if you purchased ticket protection via their website and submitted a claim before 5pm on March 11, 2020 you may be entitled to a refund - please refer to the Secure My Booking website here for further information.
