Stephen Robinson 'totally committed' to St Mirren as manager blasts Motherwell link

Stephen Robinson insists he's totally committed to the Buddies after rubbishing reports suggesting he was wanted by his former side Motherwell.

The Saints were toppled by the Steelmen in yesterday's Premiership curtain raiser, with the Paisley side squandering numerous chances in a disappointing 1-0 defeat.

While Liam Kelly produced some world class saves to earn the visitors an opening day victory, Robinson believes St Mirren will win more than they lose if they perform to the levels they produced while reaffirming he was in it for the long haul in Paisley.

When asked about reports linking him with a return to Fir Park, Robinson told Renfrewshire Live Sport: "It's not true in any shape or form.

"I find it incredible in modern society that people put things in writing and it's believed with no repercussions.

"It unsettles everybody. I'm totally committed to St Mirren. I'm totally committed to working our socks off and working to get us in the top six.

"It's a tough challenge but my focus is on nowhere else but here.

"Anybody could see we shouldn't have lost that game.

"We came up against a keeper in absolutely inspired form. It's a long time since I've seen a goalkeeper's performance of that calibre.

"From our point of view I can't fault our players too much. We totally dominated the game in terms of chances and crosses.

"If we're hyper critical we should have tested Kelly with more of our chances, even if they might not have gone in with the form he was in.

"If we play like that and create that many chances, we'll win more than we lose."

Robinson was determined to pick out the positives from yesterday's defeat, despite coming away with nothing from the match.

He had no issue with John Beaton awarding the Steelmen a penalty after Blair Spittal's effort hit Scott Tanser's hand, adding: "It was a penalty. I think it was their only shot on target.

"That's the best performance I've seen from a St Mirren squad since I've come in.

"All the new players were very good. Ryan Strain and Keanu Baccus have got a great chance of getting to the World Cup with Australia if they keep playing with that sort of energy and quality.

"There's a lot of positives and it's not often you get a standing ovation at any club when you lose a game.

"But I think people could see the effort we put in. Sometimes it just doesn't go your way."
