Stephen Robinson 'set' for St Mirren manager job as Paisley club make swift move for Morecambe boss

It's reported St Mirren are close to appointing Stephen Robinson as their new manager, paying a substantial fee to take him from Morecambe.

The Paisley club are looking for a new boss after Jim Goodwin was appointed at Aberdeen.

Saints have spoken to a number of candidates, with permission granted to discuss the vacancy with Hearts coach Steven Naismith.

Aberdeen player-coach Scott Brown was also believed to be in the running for the job, but it's now reported St Mirren have made a decision.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that they've agreed compensation with Morecambe and are ready to confirm Robinson.

The Northern Irishman spent three successful seasons at Motherwell, taking them two both domestic cup finals.

A poor run of results saw him leave the club in December 2020 and Robinson spent six months recharging his batteries.

He was only appointed at Morecambe in the summer and the Shrimps are battling relegation from England's League One.

It now appears though that he's the man St Mirren have chosen to step into the breach following Goodwin's exit.
