St Mirren are set to replace Jim Goodwin with former Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson.
The Buddies have been on the hunt for a new boss since Goodwin left the Paisley club to join Aberdeen on Saturday.
Scott Brown and Steven Naismith have both been tipped to take over the hotseat at the SMISA Stadium, as well as former Buddies boss Jack Ross.
But this evening bookies quickly made former Steelman Robinson the odds-on favourite to take on the role, with Ross and Naismith having ruled themselves out of the running today.
Morecambe have since confirmed the Saints approach.
In a statement they wrote: "Morecambe FC can confirm that we have been approached by Scottish Premiership side St Mirren to speak to manager Stephen Robinson in relation to their vacancy.
"The club has reluctantly granted Stephen permission to speak to St Mirren regarding the position. We hope for a swift resolution to this matter."
The Saints now look to be working on the finer details of his contract, having agreed to pay a clause in Robinson's contract to leave struggling English League One side Morecambe.
