Stephen Robinson says Celtic performance must be new benchmark for St Mirren and praises selfless squad attitude

Stephen Robinson doesn’t know if St Mirren can replicate the counter-attacking masterclass they produced against Celtic on a weekly basis.

But the Buddies boss insists he’s got the right group of players to try and do just that after nullifying the Hoops in Paisley before hitting them where it hurts.

Robinson earned the first victory of his managerial career against Celtic, a moment to savour after so many painful clashes at the helm of Motherwell and the Saints. He is adamant the Paisley side have the right group of characters to fit into his system and not let their egos get in the way.

When asked if St Mirren can replicate their performance against Celtic every week, Robinson replied: “I don’t know. What I do is I believe we’ll certainly be trying to do that.

“We’ve got the right personnel, we’ve got the right attitudes in the football club. And no egos. When they do we slap them right down again. This is the system and everybody fits into it.

“In reality, it doesn’t matter who goes into it. We play a certain way, we try and pass when we land on it and we hit teams with our pace and energy.

“This is as prepared as I think we’ve ever been. We had that extra time to do it. Even with set plays, when the ball comes back on the pitch. Everything.

"I have to give a lot of credit to my assistant manager Diarmuid O’Carroll too. And so much credit to the players for taking the instructions on board and ultimately doing it. ”
