Stephen Robinson praises Richard Tait for producing moment of quality to earn St Mirren win

Stephen Robinson says he wasn’t surprised to see Richard Tait’s wonderful strike hit the top corner.

That’s because the Saints gaffer has seen him regularly produce high-quality finishes on the training ground and on the pitch for former club Motherwell.

The Buddies dominated Ross County at the weekend in Paisley but still relied on defender Tait to break the deadlock with a fine finish from distance.

Robinson was delighted to see his side come away with the three points their performance deserved as St Mirren's Premiership campaign finally got off the ground.

Robinson told Renfrewshire Live Sport: “He’s actually done it a few times in training, Taity.

“And he scored a couple of decent goals for me at Motherwell as well.

“He’s technically very good and with both feet, so it was no real surprise.

“I thought we thoroughly deserved to win. We created a lot of half-chances. Jonah Ayunga hit the post in the first half as well.

"But you’re wondering if it’s going to be another of those days and a hard luck story again.

“It needed a moment of quality to win it. But I thought we were very organised and the boys have got their just rewards for a very good performance.”
