Stephen Humphrys in early Hearts exit as Steven Naismith details reasons after chat with Wigan man

Stephen Humphrys has left Hearts to return to Wigan.

The on loan attacker has played his last game for the capital club after exiting Tynecastle early with three Scottish Premiership games to run. Talks over his departure were amicable report the Edinburgh Evening News with interim boss Steven Naismith opening up on the decision to allow the striker to return south.

He explained: “Humps has had a tough period with Wigan in terms of the circumstances there, his future and what’s happening with the club.

“We just need everybody focused on what we are doing, what is happening here and what is going on until the end of the season to contribute at every moment.

“He needs to go and deal with his stuff with Wigan so he won’t be back in. He has had some great moments here and the fans have taken to him, but he won’t be back in matchday squads.

“It was a conversation we had. We discussed it and there is a bit of frustration there about his game time. Then there’s what is going on with his longer-term future. That’s the best solution for everybody.”

Hearts come up against Aberdeen next in a massive game in the race for third spot behind Celtic and Rangers. Barry Robson's men hold a five point lead with three rounds of fixtures to go with the Tynecastle clash next up.

A win for Naisy and Co in Gorgie would reduce the gap to two points to set up an exciting finale for the best of the rest position. It is most likely to guarantee European group stage football until Christmas with the Hoops heavy favourites to defeat Inverness in the Scottish Cup Final next month.
