Stephen Glass reveals Aberdeen transfer misses as he slams Ryan Hedges agent for 'driving agenda' to leave

Stephen Glass has defended Aberdeen ’s January transfer dealings but admitted he and the club are frustrated at missing out on a striker before the deadline.

The Dons came in for some heavy criticism from their own fans as only Adam Montgomery came in on loan from Celtic on deadline day, despite the Pittodrie club looking to push for third place.

Glass added Vicente Besuijen and Dante Polvara but let several fringe players go as well as star man Ryan Hedges, who joined Blackburn.

The Aberdeen boss was looking for another frontman to add competition for Christian Ramirez, with Marley Watkins out injured, but couldn't get a deal over the line and blasted Hedges' agent for forcing a move.

Glass said: “We know we would have liked to get another centre forward in.

“We were working late to try and get it done, but when you are doing that it is important you get the right people in.

“It is very, very easy to make a mistake. “It is important to get the right people in and to add quality if they are going to come. “If it is not there then it is best not to do it.

“I think if we produced Vicente (Besuijen) on the last day of the window then everybody would have been delighted.

“We know we would have liked to get another centre forward in but we are pleased with what we did and keep a hold of what we have.

“The only one who was starting games for us was Ryan Hedges, who was an unhappy player with an agent driving an agenda to get out of the club.

“It is best for the club to let him go.

“We haven’t suffered too badly although we would have liked to add another centre forward.”

The Aberdeen boss was also disappointed his side didn’t take the points at Ross County, after they went ahead through Jonny Hayes but Ross Callachan levelled.

Glass claimed: “Jonny’s finish was top class, it came off the far post and the keeper was never going to get it.

“We started the second half pretty well but didn’t look after a basic throw in."
