Steph McGovern admits being on TV doesn't make her any more special than colleagues

Steph McGovern is known as a former BBC breakfast host and the presenter of Channel 4 's daily lunchtime show, Steph's Packed Lunch.

But it is her attitude towards her TV career that has made her so relatable and engaging - namely, that being on the big screen doesn't make you special.

"It would never, ever cross my mind that I was in some way better than someone else because I'm on the telly," she wrote at the Daily Mail. "This was dinned into me at my state school in Middlesbrough where we were taught that we all have gifts and that we were all equal."

McGovern said that she sees every member of her team at work as being "as important as the next person".

"There is no hierarchy," she added.

Best known for her daytime programme Steph's Packed Lunch, McGovern explained how all those working on the show are seen as equals and that "the runner on the show is just as valued as me".

"In just the same way, titles or wealth are absolutely irrelevant in my opinion," she added.

Now with a wife and a two-year-old daughter, McGovern said she learned a lot of lessons from her parents about treating others with kindness and following her dreams. Now, she is keen to pass on those pearls of wisdom to her own daughter.

"My parents weren't pushy with me and I'm not going to be with my daughter," she said. "The only thing I'm keen to impress on her is that she should be kind and work hard. I don't care if she's top of the class. I just want her to be happy."

McGovern was in the news over the weekend after admitting the toll that Steph's Packed Lunch takes on her health.

Posting to Instagram, she shared a photo of her face in which two large blisters could be seen.

Explaining the worrying image, Steph said: “We’re coming to the end of this series of Packed Lunch (we’re on a summer break after tomorrow) and whenever I get to the end of a long run I get poorly.

“I’ve always had this whatever job I’ve been doing. I bet lots of people are the same.

“This time I have a bad ear infection and blisters in/around my ear/hair/face. It has been agony."

Steph told fans she'd been on a "load of different drugs" to try and treat the infection and ease the pain.

However, she then explained that some of them were antibiotics, which had "totally buggered up my gut health".

"My IBS is back in full swing being a total b***h," she said.

The presenter concluded: “Anyway, I’m not meaning to moan (it’s not a big deal in the grand scheme of things and I’ll be fine after some rest)

"I just wanted to explain why I’ve been a bit quieter on here."
