Steph Curry doesn’t want Steve Kerr to shy away from his exceptional shooting record in the NBA. The Golden State Warriors head coach enjoyed a 15-year tenure in the league, winning five championships, while knocking down an impressive 45.4% of his 3-point attempts. However, Kerr doesn’t believe those numbers make him a more consistent shooter than Curry.
During a recent appearance on “Headliners with Rachel Nichols,” Curry and Kerr discussed the argument for who was the most accurate shooter, with Curry urging Kerr to take credit for his outstanding accomplishments. Curry noted how being expected to knock down your open shots comes with a legitimate weight to carry.
“[You] can’t run away from the compliment,” Curry said. “I know it’s not [me]. I know it’s not. Because I know what [Kerr] will say, too, he’s like, ‘Well, look at the shots that [Curry] takes, and it’s easy when [Kerr] was wide open…But you got to be able to shoot, though. That’s the thing. I don’t ever want [Kerr] to deflect that compliment. Because once you’re in that heat of the battle and expected to make shots, there’s a pressure to that, too.”
Irrespective of who is the most consistent and accurate shooter, there should be no debate as to Curry’s position among the basketball greats. It’s a widely accepted fact that the Warriors guard is the greatest shooter of all-time, primarily due to the defensive attention he receives along with the shooting range and degree of difficulty on his shot attempts.
