Stefan Bajcetic out for rest of season after Liverpool midfielder confirms injury blow

Stefan Bajcetic has confirmed on social media that he will miss the remainder of the season after suffering an abductor injury.

The young Spaniard missed Liverpool’s Champions League away clash with Real Madrid because of the setback. Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Reds manager Jurgen Klopp would label the issue as "absolutely bad" when revealing the midfielder had suffered a stress adductor injury.

“With Stefan, it is a stress response, which is absolutely bad,” he told reporters. “So, he doesn’t feel a lot, it’s only a little bit but he is now out for I don’t know exactly how long.

“We have just to let it settle then and we will see when he can come back. [It’s] high up, around the adductor.”

Taking to Instagram, Bajcetic has now revealed he will be out until the end of the season because of the setback.

“Unfortunately I’ve picked up an injury that will keep me out until the end of the season,” he wrote. “It’s very sad to say goodbye to this amazing season for me but I understand this is part of football and will only make me stronger physically and mentally.

“I would also like to say thank you to you reds for all the support through the season and I assure you I will do my best to be back stronger than ever.”

Bajcetic has been a breakthrough star in what has been a disappointing season for Liverpool. The 18-year-old has made 19 appearances in all competitions, becoming a regular starter since the turn of the year, and scored his first Reds goal against Aston Villa back in December.

He joins Luis Diaz, Thiago Alcantara, and Calvin Ramsay on Liverpool’s injury list. And while the former pair are expected back after the March international break, the teenager’s absence still provides Klopp with an unwanted headache as the Reds look to finish in the top four and qualify for the Champions League against the odds.

Liverpool have struggled in midfield this season, with Bajcetic one of their most consistent performers. Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, and Juventus loanee Arthur Melo aren’t contracted beyond the end of the season, with Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago, Harvey Elliott, and Curtis Jones the struggling Reds’ remaining options.
