The most universal complaint across the NFL is how poorly conceived and pointless Thursday Night Football is. Everyone acknowledges it is nothing more than a money grab and not good football but I digress.
The Pittsburgh Steelers will play on Thursday night in the regular season and so head coach Mike Tomlin has decided to embrace it and is using the short week this week ahead of their preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons to work on preparedness for an irregular work week.
“I’m excited about the irregular week,” Tomlin said in his Tuesday pregame press conference.
Pittsburgh travels to Atlanta this week to take on the Falcons in the final preseason game of the season. Playing early gives Pittsburgh a few extra days before they must cut the 90-man offseason roster down to 53 by the deadline. Tomlin wasn’t sure if he would consider practicing in those final days in an attempt to get one last look at those players on the roster bubble or not.
