Steelers trade rumors swirl but likely to be for nothing

One thing the Pittsburgh Steelers faithful are known for is their willingness to accept every rumor about their team as fact. Head coach Mike Tomlin talks often about knee-jerk reactions but the fanbase never hesitates to overreact to every rumor.

The latest rumors are all about players the Steelers might trade for. There are two huge names out there being circulated to the Steelers and they fall into two very different categories.

First up is Denver Broncos Patrick Surtain II. The Broncos are a dreadful team and it would make sense they would want to trade away a few top players to get some high draft picks. There’s zero doubt Surtain would be a massive upgrade in the secondary but you can bet the asking price would be high.

Second up, and more far-fetched is the rumor that the Steelers are interested in disgruntled Indianapolis Colts running Jonathan Taylor. Taylor is an elite talent at running back but he is going to demand a massive contract that I’m not sure the Steelers want to pay. Not to mention, what would a trade like this mean for Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren? If the Steelers want to improve the run game in a trade, finding a top-tier offensive lineman might make more sense.

The reality is with the Steelers sitting at 2-1, the front office isn’t going to feel a need to panic and make a trade. This Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans is very winnable and the Steelers could easily be 3-1. That doesn’t feel like a team trying to make a splash with a trade.
