Steelers sign former Eagles second round pick to add depth in the secondary

The Steelers are 8-2 and a team the Eagles will face, three weeks from now, in Week 15 of the 2024 NFL season.  Pittsburgh is banged up in the secondary and signed former Philadelphia second-round pick Eric Rowe to the practice squad ahead of Week 12.

Philadelphia selected Rowe in the second round (47th overall) of the 2015 NFL draft out of Utah.

Rowe played in 16 games for the Eagles in his rookie season, starting five. He finished that season with 31 tackles, five passes defended, and an interception.

He was traded to the Patriots the following year and spent three seasons in New England. Rowe played in 21 games, starting 12, and had 50 tackles and an interception.

He signed with the Miami Dolphins in 2019 and spent four seasons with them. He played in 62 games with 38 starts. He amassed 300 tackles, including six for a loss, three interceptions, one returned for a touchdown, and two sacks.

In his 10th season, Rowe was initially signed to the Steelers practice squad on Nov. 20, 2023. He was elevated for the team’s Week 16 game against the Bengals when he had his first Steelers interception, Week 17 against the Seattle Seahawks, and Week 18 against the Ravens. Rowe, who started against the Bengals, Seahawks, and Ravens, had 29 tackles, 22 of them solo stops, an interception, a forced fumble, and a tackle for a loss.

In the Steelers AFC Wild Card game against the Buffalo Bills, Rowe had eight tackles and broke up a third-down pass that forced a field goal attempt the Steelers blocked.
