In his first NFL draft as the Pittsburgh Steelers general manager, Omar Khan really impressed. Khan, along with assistant general manager Andy Weidl and head coach Mike Tomlin put together a masterful plan that culminated in one of the best draft classes the Steelers have had in the last decade.
Here is the full rundown of Steelers picks:
First round – OT Broderick Jones, Georgia
Second round – CB Joey Porter Jr., Penn State
Second round – DT Keeanu Benton, Wisconsin
Third round – TE Darnell Washington, Georgia
Fourth round – EDGE Nate Herbig, Wisconsin
Seventh round – CB Cory Trice, Purdue
Seventh round – OL Spencer Anderson, Maryland
The class was good enough to earn one of only five teams to earn an A+ grade from Pro Football Focus.
Pittsburgh should get heavy rookie contributions from Jones and Porter with Washington in the mix as well It isn’t clear how Benton and Herbig work into the lineup early but both guys have a ton of potential.
