Steelers OC Matt Canada Will Be on Sideline, Not in Box, for TNF vs. Titans, per Report

As the Steelers host the Titans on Thursday night, Pittsburgh’s coaching staff is making a significant change to its operations. Offensive coordinator Matt Canada will coach the game from the sidelines instead of from the booth as he’s done throughout his career, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports.

Canada has been at the center of criticism this season, as the Steelers are averaging 16.1 points per game, fourth-worst in the league. Fans have gotten so frustrated with the offense that they have called for the team to fire Canada midseason.

After spending the majority of his career as a college offensive coordinator or quarterbacks coach, Canada joined the Steelers in 2020 and became Pittsburgh’s offensive coordinator in 2021.

The Steelers enter Thursday’s game with a 4-3 record, which is tied for second in the AFC North with the Browns and Bengals. Second year quarterback Kenny Pickett has had an up-and-down season thus far, producing 1,330 passing yards with five touchdowns and four interceptions in seven games.

Last week, Pickett injured his ribs vs. the Jaguars, but the quarterback fully participated in practice this week and will start against Tennessee.
