On Tuesday, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin held his regular start of the week press conference and was asked about the behavior of wide receiver George Pickens. Tomlin was also asked again about Pickens reduction in snaps last week against the Dallas Cowboys and Tomlin doubled down on his double talk about it being snap management and not about Pickens being benched.
Remind me never to buy a used car from Tomlin because he can really talk a good game with a straight face and make you want to believe him even when every ounce of your being says he’s not being honest.
There’s no justification for a young, athletic receiver like Pickens to need reps off to maximize production from a physical standpoint. The top receivers in the NFL are on the field for huge percentages of their team’s reps. That’s because they are the top receiver.
Pickens sitting has to be more to do with his fragile ego and Tomlin attempting to minimize the opportunity for an outburst or lazy play that ends up all over highlights after the fact.
