This has been one of the busiest offseasons of all time for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Even with the loss of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh has gone to great lengths to improve multiple positional units on both sides of the ball.
However, many teams in the NFL have made big moves and instead of being a season to rebuild it has become more like playing a game of catchup. USA Today has put out new NFL power rankings after the first big wave of free agency and despite the improvements Pittsburgh has made, they find themselves falling from No. 16 all the way down to No. 22.
Here’s what they had to say about the drop in rankings.
Draft night should be fascinating given how Pittsburgh is perpetually linked to Liberty’s Malik Willis. No denying Steelers are well behind rest of AFC North when it comes to the quarterback position.
Only three AFC teams, the Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Jets and Houston Texans rank lower. What is the common thread? Uncertainty at quarterback and Pittsburgh is right there with them. How Pittsburgh handles the position between now and the start of the season will go a long way toward determining just how competitive this team can be.
