Steelers CB Joey Porter Jr. Working with 1st team at OTAs

It didn’t take long but Pittsburgh Steelers rookie cornerback Joey Porter Jr. is getting starter reps in OTA practices. This is per fellow Steelers cornerback Patrick Peterson.

Meanwhile, Peterson is already getting work inside as a slot cornerback, which presumably allows Porter to work on the outside opposite Levi Wallace.

This group of cornerbacks gives the Steelers a good problem to have. The coaches have some nice interchangeable parts that can work inside and outside. This doesn’t even account for veteran James Pierre, newly-signed slot cornerback Chandon Sullivan and rookie Cory Trice Jr.

We’ve said since the beginning the Steelers didn’t draft Porter with the No. 32 overall pick not to have him on the field. Porter is a legacy pick and comes to the team with plenty of hype.

It feels like when push comes to shove, Wallace could be the odd man out on the outside but Peterson in the slot gives the defense even more flexibility.
