Steelers-Cardinals Game Delayed a Second Time by Lightning Amid Heavy Rains in Pittsburgh

Week 13’s Steelers-Cardinals game was delayed for a second time on Sunday afternoon.

Heavy rains have drenched the field at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh. The second game delay comes after the contest was halted coming out of halftime. Severe conditions that included lightning, heavy rain, and gusty winds have impacted the game.

The Cardinals went into halftime with a 10–3 lead after quarterback Kyler Murray connected with Trey McBride on a five-yard touchdown pass with 20 seconds remaining in the first half. The two teams eventually resumed play with Arizona adding another score on a one-yard touchdown from James Connor to give the Cardinals a 17–3 advantage.

The Steelers have struggled offensively as quarterback Kenny Pickett suffered an ankle injury halfway through the second quarter. On third down near the Steelers’ goal line, Pickett elected to keep the ball, scrambled forward, and dived for the end zone.

In the process, Cardinals defensive lineman Jonathan Ledbetter made the tackle on Pickett from behind, grabbing his left ankle as he landed on the ground. With Pickett’s injury, Mitch Trubisky stepped in as the Steelers’ signal-caller.

Pickett was ruled out and finished the game completing 7-of-10 passes for 70 yards. Currently, Trubisky has thrown for 15 yards on 2-of-3 passes in the contest.
