A record ten million people will end up paying the higher rate of Income Tax if Rachel Reeves extends a freeze on thresholds for another two years, leading economist are warning.
The highly respected Institute for Fiscal Studies stressed that the move would drag 790,000 more people into paying the 40% rate, compared to current plans with the freeze due to end after 2027/28.
