Staying at an Assam Tea Estate: What a Planter's Bungalow Costs, Includes and Expects of Guests

What You Pay, and Why the Range Is So Wide

Rates at a planter's bungalow in Assam run from roughly ₹8,000 to ₹25,000 per night for the full bungalow, not a room. Most estates rent the property as a single unit, you take the whole house, typically with two to four bedrooms, a sit-out veranda, and a dedicated staff team. The variation in price comes down to three things: the age and condition of the colonial-era structure, whether the estate is a functioning tea garden or a heritage property that has shifted primarily to hospitality, and the season. October through April is peak; the flush months of May and June bring rain and a quieter, cheaper stay. A few estates, Thengal Manor near Jorhat and Cinnamara Tea Estate among them, have moved to per-room pricing to accommodate smaller groups, which brings entry cost down to ₹3,500-₹6,000 per room. Meals are almost always extra, billed at a fixed daily rate per person, usually ₹1,500-₹2,500 all-inclusive.
