'Stay tuned': Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse producers drop a big hint that they might be ready to show us some footage — and say they're 'very confident' it'll meet its release date

  • Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will meet its June 18, 2027, release date
  • That's according to two of its producers, who are "very confident" it won't be delayed further
  • Its first footage could be shown off sooner than some of us think, too

It appears that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse (SM:BTS) won't be delayed again following multiple release date setbacks.

That's the verdict of producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who exclusively told me they're "very confident" that one of next year's most anticipated new movies will meet its current launch date. That response came as part of our chat concerning Project Hail Mary, the first film that Lord and Miller have directed since 2014's 22 Jump Street.

Originally due out on March 29, 2024, the sequel to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (SM:ATS) was initially removed from Sony's release calendar just weeks after Across the Spider-Verse made its theatrical debut in June 2023. The SAG-AFTRA strikes, coupled with well-publicized production issues, were cited as major factors for said pulling.

Thankfully, last March, Sony reassured fans that the final entry of its highly-rated and award-winning animated Spider-Man film trilogy was still in development. Additionally, it set a new launch date of June 4, 2027, for Beyond the Spider-Verse, which should wrap up the stories of co-leads Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen.

Just four months later, a revised release date of June 25, 2027, was announced, which sparked new fears that SM:BTS was suffering from more internal strife.

However, in September 2025, Sony indicated that development was not only going well but somewhat ahead of schedule. Indeed, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse's latest release date — June 18, 2027 —is the first time that its launch has been brought forward.

Given Lord and Miller's full belief that SM:BTS will drop next June, attention predictably turns to the unveiling of its first footage.

So far, we've only been treated to a handful of official images that were released last April (see the X/Twitter post above). And, considering SM:ATS' first teaser received its worldwide premiere at Brazil Comic-Con (CCXP) 2021 in December of that year, it would make sense for Sony to drop Beyond the Spider-Verse's inaugural teaser during this year's CCXP, especially as it'll still be six months away from launch when CCXP 2026 takes place.

Is that the most likely scenario? I had to ask. Unfortunately, Lord and Miller didn't provide a definitive answer, but their reply did give me hope that we might see something soon — and, perhaps, even earlier than this December.

"We can't really tell you that, but stay tuned," Miller said, before Lord followed up with "Soon. You'll see something soon...ish."

Does that mean we could see something at San Diego Comic-Con in late July? Or even earlier at Mexico Comic-Con next month (i.e., April)? I guess we'll find out in the weeks and months to come.

As for Project Hail Mary, the Ryan Gosling-starring sci-fi epic lands in theaters on May 19 (UK and Australia) and May 20 (US and everywhere else). Read my Project Hail Mary review to get my thoughts on it, too.
