Sick pay rules are changing from this week - with workers who get Covid no longer eligible for immediate statutory sick pay (SSP). It will mean those who are unwell with the virus can only claim sick pay from day four of being off work.
The regulations are going back to their pre-pandemic norm after the Government suspended the three-day waiting period for SSP at the start of the Covid crisis. It meant employees could be paid SSP from the first qualifying day of their sickness.
From Thursday, March 24, you will no longer be entitled to this and if you're sick with Covid you'll have to wait until the fourth qualifying day for SSP to kick in. SSP is currently £96.35 a week for those eligible and is paid by employers for up to 28 weeks after the first three days of illness - and if you're earning at least £120 a week.
