Statistics Canada says wholesale sales up 3.5% at $75.6B in November

OTTAWA — Statistics Canada says wholesale sales rose for a fourth consecutive month in November, helped by gains in the building materials and supplies, and miscellaneous products subsectors.

The agency says wholesale sales rose 3.5 per cent in November to $75.6 billion despite the impact of flooding and transportation disruptions in B.C.

The gains came as sales climbed higher in six of the seven subsectors.

Sales of building materials and supplies climbed 7.1 per cent higher in November at $12.3 billion, while miscellaneous wholesaler sales rose 5.0 per cent to $11.3 billion.

Motor vehicle and motor vehicle parts and accessories sales rose 4.5 per cent in November to $11.4 billion.

Statistics Canada estimated that the flooding in B.C. in November caused a loss of about $600 million in wholesale sales.
