Statement after seven fire engines called to Nottingham city centre address

Seven fire engines were called to an apartment block in Nottingham over a false alarm. At one stage at least seven appliances were in attendance at the building on the Derby Road and Ilkeston Road junction on Saturday, April 23.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service were responding to calls at 2.24pm. When arriving at the property crews could smell possible electrical burning in the lift shaft, however found no fire.

A further three support vehicles were called to the scene, with operations beginning to be scaled down at around 3.15pm.

A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews were called to a property on Derby Road, Nottingham at 2.24pm. Within the property crews could smell possible electrical burning in the lift shaft but on further investigation no sign of a fire could be located.

"As a precautionary measure the power to the lift was isolated."
