The state pension is rising by 10.1% from today in a welcome cash boost for millions of retired Brits.
It comes after the Tories finally confirmed they will keep the triple lock promise in place - following months of speculation.
The triple lock guarantees the state pension rises by the highest of average earnings, Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation and 2.5%.
But this was downgraded to a double lock in 2022 after the Covid pandemic pushed earnings growth higher as workers returned from furlough.
Now the triple lock guarantee is coming back, the full state pension will rise by 10.1% in line with the previous September’s inflation rate.
The new rates will kick in today (April 10) but when you'll notice the difference depends on when you receive your next payment after this date.
Here is how much more you’ll get.
How much is the state pension rising by?
There are two different types of state pension - which one you claim depends on when you were born.
The full new state pension is now worth £203.85 per week - up from the previous figure of £185.15.
You claim the new state pension if you’re:
a man born on or after 6 April 1951
a woman born on or after 6 April 1953
The amount you get depends on how many years of National Insurance contributions you have accrued in your working life.
You normally need 35 qualifying years on your record to get the full new state pension, and ten years to get anything at all.
The full basic state pension is now worth £156.20 per week - up from the previous figure of £141.85.
You can claim the basic state pension if you’re:
a man born before 6 April 1951
a woman born before 6 April 1953
How much you get through the basic state pension also depends on your National Insurance record.
You need 30 qualifying years to get the full amount.
The minimum number of years is usually 11 for men born before 1945, and ten years for women born before 1950.
The current state pension age for women and men retiring now is 66, but it will rise to 67 between 2026 and 2028.
A further increase to 68 is due to happen between 2044 and 2046.
