MUMBAI: Mumbai opener Bhupen Lalwani, who was the top run-getter in Mumbai's victorious Ranji Trophy campaign in the 2023-24 season, said at an event on Friday that he started playing the sport because of India's swashbuckling opening great Virender Sehwag.
"I started playing cricket because of watching Virender Sehwag. I would throw a fit, and not eat food when he would get out. His triple century (against South Africa in 2008) in a Test match in Chennai was a special knock. I've seen it's recording more than 100 times. It gives me confidence when I'm down," Lalwani said on the occasion of being felicitated by the ASK Foundation24, a leading Mumbai-based NGO. Lalwani donated Rs 1 lakh to the NGO as a token of appreciation for their continuous support in his journey. "I was always told to give back to society," the 24-year-old said.
