Start organic farming on large scale to boost income, says minister

MOTIHARI: Union minister for fishery, animal husbandry and dairying, Parshottam Rupala, on Friday called on young farmers to start organic farming on large scale with the help of organic fertilisers, mostly prepared with indigenous cow dung, which will add to their income income while consumers will get safe food and surroundings.

"Waste products like the faecal of livestock are utilized as manures and pesticides, and cow urine can be used as pest repellent as well as growth promoters," said Rupala after inaugurating a three-day animal health and agricultural development fair organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra at Pipra-Kothi in East Champaran district, 11km away from Motihari.

Former union agriculture minister Radha Mohan Singh and state health minister Mangal Pandey were the chief guests at this function.

Rupala further said the Modi government is committed to provide health facilities and vaccination to all animals, including milching cows in the country, and all states have taken it sincerely.
