Stars to honour unsung heroes at Pride of Birmingham Awards 2022

The Birmingham Live Pride of Birmingham Awards, in partnership with TSB, are back and in person to honour the region’s unsung heroes and to celebrate those ordinary Brummies’ who have done truly extraordinary things. Hosted by actor Kym Marsh, the Awards will be presented on Monday 7th March at a prestigious and star-studded event at The Great Hall, Birmingham University.

The last two years have shown us it is more important than ever to acknowledge and reward the people who go the extra mile to make a difference. This year’s awe-inspiring winners include a terminally-ill schoolboy who inspires everyone around him as he tries to keep smiling through his battle with devastating Batten Disease; a teenager who has raised thousands of pounds for the hospital where she had life-saving brain surgery with a series of inspiring TikTok videos; a mum who campaigns for lifesaving bleed kits to be easily accessible to the public following the tragic stabbing of her son and a young man who risked his own safety to climb into a smoking car to pull the driver to safety after a serious road accident.

Previously, some Pride of Birmingham winners have gone on to be recognised on the national stage at the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards, in partnership with TSB, which is aired on ITV in the Autumn. Since the first Pride of Britain in 1999, royalty, prime ministers, and hundreds of leading figures from show business, sport, politics, and the arts have all taken part.

In 2021 Pride of Britain honoured 2019 Pride of Birmingham winner Rosemary Cox, with a Lifetime Achievement award, for her successful campaign to set up the first Organ Donor Register in the UK, helping to save and transform thousands of lives. In an unforgettable moment, Rosemary was overwhelmed when she was surprised with the news of her award by one of her TV favourites Alan Titchmarsh, and more than 100 people who wanted to thank her in person for saving them or a loved one

Kym Marsh said of the winners “I'm so excited about Pride of Birmingham. It's been two years since we have been able to get together properly for these awards, so I know it's going to be a fantastic night. But what makes it truly special is the winners. They are so inspirational and courageous, their stories really touch your heart, and I can't wait to meet them.”

Claire Steele, TSB Regional Director Midlands and North Wales, says “It has been a tough year for the people of Birmingham, but time and again we have heard stories of how people and communities have done incredible things to support each other. At TSB we are delighted to once again be partnering with The Pride of Birmingham Awards, to recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements of all these everyday heroes.”
