Sir Keir Starmer has called for unrestricted transit in the Strait of Hormuz after Donald Trump said he would levy a 20% toll on shipping for safe passage through the critical waterway.

The outgoing British Prime Minister also urged an end to the fighting and a return to the negotiating table as the US launched the third consecutive night of strikes against Iran over the contested strategic sea route.
