Star Wars fans spot unlikely detail in new Disney+ Ahsoka trailer

Star Wars fans eager to see the upcoming TV series, Ahsoka, have noticed an unlikely detail in the show's official trailer.

On Tuesday (July 11), the streaming giant unveiled a two-minute-long official trailer for the series - which you can watch below. Set after the fall of the Empire, it follows Rosario Dawson as former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.

Natasha Liu Bordizzo will play Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead is Hera Syndulla and Ray Stevenson will play Baylan Skoll. The trailer also hinted that Sabine could now be a Jedi, while giving fans a look at the first ever live-action Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Lars Mikkelsen, who voiced the blue-skinned, red-eyed villain in the animated Star Wars Rebels, will reprise his role in Ahsoka. But fans reckon live-action Thrawn bears a resemblance to SpaceX CEO and Twitter boss Elon Musk.

Taking to Twitter, fans were quick to point out the likeliness. Sharing a still of Thraw from the trailer, @slips85 wrote: "Taking Twitter Blue a little too seriously @elonmusk" and @jaywhohuh joked: "Yoo-hoo Disney is jabbing at Elon". @joebottomley asked: "Is that, is that Elon as Thrawn?" with a trio of laughing faces as @varunshankar04 added: "Why does he look like Elon Musk?"

@SWUChristoph tweeted: "Not sure about #Ahsoka yet but rooting against blue-faced Elon Musk might just do it for me" and @ssj4raditz joked: "Surprised they got Elon to portray Thrawn in that new Ahsoka show…" @N0Classified echoed: "bro really look like Elon Musk but blue #Ahsoka" and, tweeting the Tesla CEO himself, @RobertKissel cheekily wrote: "Hey Elon congrats on the role as admiral thrawn in the new Star Wars #Ahsoka series you're definitely gonna nail it!"

Lars previously spoke to Collider about playing Thrawn, and praised writer Dave Filoni's flair for character development. He said: "Dave Filoni’s writing is very good, it’s very strong, and all the characters have their own drive.

"You will probably not know totally what it’s all about until that very last scene, and I like that way of writing, that you take your audience so seriously that you allow them to think for themselves, that we drag it out right until the last moments what the whole thing is about..."

Also joining the Ahsoka cast is Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth and David Tennant as Huyang, while Eman Esfandi is appearing as Ezra Bridger.

Ahsoka herself was first introduced in the 2008 The Clone Wars film and subsequent TV series, played by Ashley Eckstein. She was a teen apprentice to Anakin Skywalker and has been on quite the journey since.

From witnessing her master turn to the Dark Side, to aiding the Rebellion against The Empire, Ahsoka has also featured in the Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, this time portrayed by Rosario.

The new series will premiere with its first two episodes on Disney+ on Wednesday August 23.. It will consist of eight episodes in total, predicted to be around 45 minutes long each.

The series is written by Dave Filoni, who executive produces alongside Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Colin Wilson, and Carrie Beck. The Mandalorian's Karen Gilchrist is co-executive producer.

The first two episodes of Ahsoka release on Disney+ on August 23.
