The manager of a café in Stapleford hopped off the bus to find her business taped off by the police and 'shattered glass everywhere'.
Detectives were called out to The Little Kitchen in Derby Road overnight following reports of a burglary.
A pane of glass was smashed to the front door of the café, and an area surrounding the business was cordoned off.
The manager of The Little Kitchen was left in complete shock when she realised what had happened, hopping off the bus to discover the damage at around 7.20am.
The manager, who asked not to be named, said: "I was shocked - I basically got off the bus and found the café taped off and police cars on the road. There was shattered glass everywhere.
"It is such a shame because Stapleford is such a good community.
"People asked me if I was all right and if there is anything they could do to help."
Police at the scene confirmed officers were called to reports of a burglary.
The incident was reported in the early hours of Saturday, February 5, and the cordon was being lifted before 11am.
The manager added: "We are a small business and we are just trying to make it through.
"It is the inconvenience and the costs that can really affect a small business."
Sweeping the glass spread all around the floor, she said: "My main concern now is to make sure that I have cleaned all the glass because I am worried that I will still find broken glass in the next few days.
"There was shattered glass everywhere - it is a mess."
Other business owners in the area voiced their concern after the incident.
Karen Bailey, who runs Hocus Pocus Rocks and Crystals in Derby Road, added: "I have been saying this for a long time that we need more CCTV in the area.
"It is devastating, especially for a small business.
"We are all struggling as it is."
The 59-year-old said the area was "getting rough", adding: "Now we have put shutters [in place] because we are scared - and it should not be like that."
Shaun Cutts, 28, who works at the same shop, added: "You should not be forced to have shutters in this day and age.
"It is absolutely shocking and devastating for the owners.
"I do not really understand what the robbers were after - everyone pays by card anyway.
"It is ridiculous."
Amy Saunders, who works at a tanning salon across the road, was left disgusted by the incident.
The 33-year-old, from Ilkeston, said: “It is not acceptable.
“I was very shocked when I saw it because it’s quite a dramatic scene.”
