Stacey Solomon stays quiet on Jubilee celebrations after royal comments on ITV Loose Women resurface

Stacey Solomon has remained quiet about how she is planning to spend the four-day weekend as comments she made about the royal family resurface. The Loose Women star hasn't been as active as she usually is on social media but her presence has still been felt as people continue to share a clip of her from the ITV show.

Back in 2018, Stacey aired her criticism of the Royals on the programme in which she spoke about not understanding the "obsession" with the Queen and her family. The conversation on the ITV lunchtime panel has gone viral in the past but has been circulated on social media again in recent days amid the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

In the clip, the 32-year-old appeared on Loose Women alongside panellists Christine Lampard, Linda Robson and Jane Moore. She said: "I don’t get why we’re so obsessed with these humans that are exactly the same. It could be us four sitting there, I just don’t get it."

As Jane raises the idea that the Royals are "becoming like celebrities", Stacey replies: "To me, that's what they are." She then questioned her fellow panellists on their reasons for “loving” the Queen. Jane answered: "For duty, responsibility, figurehead,” while Linda stated: “She’s always worked really hard, hasn’t she?”

"But I would work hard if the country paid for me to have like 12 houses and work really hard," Stacey responded. "They don't pay for all the houses," Jane said, "We contribute about £39m a year. It costs £300m a year to run the Royal Family. But I’m with you. After the Queen, I’d have them all on bicycles and living in a terraced house. But I love the Queen, I think she’s fantastic."

As they debated the royal family's extravagant homes and accommodation, former X Factor star Stacey added: "It’s freezing cold outside and people are homeless and these people have houses to spare and it does sometimes become a little bit frustrating because I don’t see the purpose of all that money going to this entire family."

Twitter user @LeGateauChoc was among those sharing the clip. In a tweet, they wrote: "'I just don’t get it…' - Stacey Solomon." The 39-second video has racked up 1.6m views with more than 51,000 likes. And many appeared to agree with Stacey. @Melfynjones1 said: "I don't get it either. Never did, never will."

@jackremmington wrote: "I watch this vid every time it comes up on my timeline, and couldn’t agree more. I love Stacey." @SamanthaMalin replied: "Stacey Solomon - superstar." @Roppa77 added: "Respect due to @StaceySolomon it took courage to go on TV and make your feelings about the Royals known, especially as others on the panel defend them, well done for being honest and standing up for what you believe."

On Thursday the royal family came together, with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, to kick star the celebrations in honour of the missing Queen's 70 years on the throne. The traditional Trooping the Colour started the four-day weekend before the monarch and other senior royals appeared on the balcony of Buckingham Palace for a flypast.

Then on Friday, Harry and Meghan joined the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as nearly 40 royals gathered for the celebration in St Paul’s Cathedral in London. There was a question mark over whether the Queen, 96, would attend and it was announced on Thursday evening (June 2) that she wouldn't be there after suffering 'discomfort' during the first day of events.
