St Patrick’s Day and double Bank Holiday shop opening hours for Lidl, Aldi, Dunnes, SuperValu, Tesco

The countdown is on for what will be for many a four-day weekend of celebrations for St Patrick’s Day.

Ireland will enjoy a double Bank Holiday this year as a tribute to health workers and to remember those who died with Covid-19.

St Patrick’s Day falls on a Thursday this year and is traditionally a Bank Holiday. But many workers will enjoy an extra day off on Friday as March 18 has been declared a one-off Bank Holiday for this year only.

From next year, the new Bank Holiday will fall around St Brigid’s Day.

Many people will be planning to stock up on supplies for St Patrick’s Day and the long weekend, but they are being warned that many supermarket opening hours will be altered.

The majority of shops are operating a Sunday opening hours schedule across Thursday and Friday.

Here's all the main supermarkets across Ireland and their St Patrick's Day opening hours.

Aldi

On weekends and Bank Holidays all Aldi stores across Ireland are open from 9am to 9pm.

Lidl

Lidl stores across Ireland operate Sunday hours on Bank Holidays, including St Patrick’s Day. The usual opening hours for Bank Holidays is 9am to 9pm.

Lidl have also confirmed their promotional offers will start a day earlier on Wednesday this week.

Dunnes Stores

Dunnes Stores will be operating reduced hours on Thursday and Friday. Many shops will be following their usual Sunday opening hours, which vary from store to store.

SuperValu

Each SuperValu will likely be operating on Sunday hours but these all vary depending on the individual stores.

Tesco

Tesco opening hours across the country will vary greatly with a lot of places implementing their usual Sunday hours. Customers are advised to check their local store with the online locater to see what time it opens and closes.
