St Mirren Women sealed a perfect weekend’s work as they prepare for another historic appearance at the SMiSA Stadium.
Kate Cooper’s much improved side have already exceeded their points tally from last season after just ten games, with their 4-2 derby win against Paisley rivals Gleniffer Thistle on Sunday their sixth win in ten matches.
The exciting victory, sealed by a brace from Kelly Ross and further efforts from Ceara Macintyre and Helen McLeod, came hot on the back of news that the Buddies would be playing their second ever match at the home of the club in Paisley.
After this weekend’s trip to north to face Grampian Ladies, the Saints will return to take on SWF League One opponents Westdyke
at the SMiSA Stadium on Sunday, November 20.
Head coach Cooper believes the game will be a memorable occasion for her players, especially the diehard St Mirren fans in her squad who will get to significantly step out on the pitch.
Cooper told Renfrewshire Live Sport: “Everyone involved is excited to be playing at the SMiSA Stadium for the first time since 2019.
“It’s a very important moment and I think it sends out an important message to young girls who support our club.
“It shows that we have a close link to the men’s team and that we are all part of the St Mirren family.
“Quite a few of our players are St Mirren fans as well, so it will be a big moment for them to step onto the pitch and represent the club at the SMiSA.
“All the players are looking forward to the opportunity to play on a first-class pitch.
“It’s also a great opportunity for us to increase the profile of the women’s game and give more Saints supporters the chance to come and see the team.”
St Mirren Women first played at the SMiSA back in May 2019, when they defeated West Park FC in the then SWFL Division Two.
Tickets went on sale yesterday and are available in the Main Stand, from Blocks M1-M5 and start from just £3.
It’s an increasingly busy time for the club, with the women’s team yesterday drawn to face Rossvale at home in the third round of the Scottish Cup.
