St Mirren v Celtic penalty 'surprise' as Jack Ross asks why Greg Taylor not penalised in 'real time'

Jack Ross has expressed his 'surprise' at David Dickinson not awarding a penalty against Greg Taylor in real time.

The Celtic defender was penalised in the end following a VAR review after being deemed to have handled the ball in the box after the ball struck his arm from Alex Grieve's attempted flick on to knock the ball beyond the left-back. The whistler didn't point to the spot at the time with VAR stepping in and asking the referee to look at the monitor. It was at this point he pointed for the penalty and Mark O'Hara converted to give the home side an early lead.

Charles Dunne was then sent-off in the final stages of the first period with the Hoops going on to make the man advantage count in the second 45 as they smashed home FIVE goals to restore their nine point lead over Ranger s at the top of the Premiership. Speaking on BBC Sportscene and providing his analysis of the early talking point in Paisley, former Buddies boss Ross explained: "First of all, Alex Greive does well and he's just trying to flick the ball around the corner for himself.

"The thing I'm surprised about first of all is that David Dickinson doesn't award that in real time, it's because of his position. I think you can see it hits Greg Taylor's arm. I think that's not in doubt that it hit hits his arm.

"Now, the interpretation then is, is it intentional? Is he making his body shape bigger? All these aspects come in when you talk about the handball.

"But that's the biggest surprise for me - that he doesn't give it real time and then perhaps VAR asks him to look at it from there."

Ange Postecoglou's table toppers return to midweek action as they host Hearts in the league under the lights at Parkhead on Wednesday night.

They then make the trip to the capital to face the same opposition in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals as they bid to keep their Treble hopes alive and book another day out at Hampden for the last four stage.
