St Mirren transfer update as Eamonn Brophy completes Ross County loan move and Marcus Fraser agrees new deal

The Buddies have enjoyed their busiest day of the January transfer window yet with Eamonn Brophy joining Premiership rivals Ross County.

The striker has been desperate for more game time in recent months, with St Mirren sanctioning a loan deal until the end of the season to allow the 26-year-old to join the Staggies.

Saints boss Stephen Robinson revealed he'd have liked to have kept Brophy, who was a marquee signing when he joined the club back in January 2021 from Kilmarnock, but had to consider financial implications as well moving forward.

Robinson said: "In an ideal world we would have liked to have had Eamonn stay. But given he hasn't been playing regularly this is a good opportunity for him to go and get game time and as a club we also have to consider the financial aspects of the deal.

"We wish Eamonn well during his time at Ross County."

As well as recalling young striker Kieran Offord from his loan spell at Alloa Athletic last week, Robinson has also taken up the option to bring 20-year-old forward Lewis Jamieson back from his temporary spell with Airdrie.

He scored eight goals in 18 appearances in the first half of the season, with Robinson hoping to develop him further in Paisley.

Robinson said: “Lewis has been out and done well at that level. He’s scored goals and now it’s a case of bringing him back into the first-team environment again.

“He needs to get stronger and fitter and that’s his challenge between now and the end of the season. He’s certainly got a lot of talent and he’s someone we want to work with and want to succeed. Now it’s up to him because we’ll give him all the tools to do that.”

One player departing the club is Toyosi Olusanya, with the winger joining Championship side Arbroath on loan today until the end of the season.

The 25-year-old signed from English Championship side Middlesbrough in June last year but an injury earlier in the season curtailed his opportunities, with the forward making just five appearances for Saints so far.

Robinson said: “Toyosi has been out for three or four months with an injury and we felt it was a good opportunity for him to go out and play 15 games at a good level in the Championship.

“We also have an eye on getting Toyosi ready for next season. He hasn’t played a lot of football over the last year and he’ll benefit from playing at a good level with a good club.”

In a big boost for the Paisley club, key defender Marcus Fraser has put pen to paper on a two-year extension to his current deal at the club.

Robinson added: "I'm delighted to get Marcus' deal over the line. He has arguably been one of my best defenders all season.

"What is important is stability. That's Marcus and Greg [Kiltie] both signed and we have other players under contract for next season. Hopefully that gives us a base to build from going forward."
