St Mirren midfielder Mark O'Hara named Paisley Daily Express Buddies player of the year

Stephen Robinson insists Mark O’Hara deserves to scoop every player of the year award after a simply sensational season in the black and white stripes.

The influential midfielder is revealed as the Paisley Daily Express player of the year for St Mirren.

Having scooped awards left, right and centre over the last month, Robinson believes O’Hara has developed into an all-round midfielder that any manager would love to build a team around.

And the Saints boss feels O’Hara is so calm and composed on the ball he could even play in the Buddies defence.

Speaking exclusively to the Paisley Daily Express, Robinson said: “Mark has been outstanding all season. He’s been my captain for most of the year because he epitomises everything I want from a football player.

“He’s technically very good and has scored a lot of goals this season. He’s added that to his game and leads by example on and off the pitch.

“He’s a great boy, a fantastic asset for the football club. He’s developed into an all-round midfielder now. At Motherwell we played him a little bit deeper, more as the six, where now we’ve freed him up to go forward and score more goals.

“He’s so versatile. I could play him in the middle of the back three or at right-back and I know he’d do a job. He’s a manager’s dream. I’ve had no issues with him whatsoever and he deserves every player of the season award he’s getting this year.”

Meanwhile, the Buddies will this week see season 2023/24 take shape as the Viaplay League Cup group stage draw is held on Thursday.

Robbo’s troops will have a pre-season training camp in Northern Ireland with two friendlies already scheduled in the capital Belfast.

Saints face Glentoran at the Blanchflower Stadium on Wednesday, June 28 (kick-off 7.45pm) then tackle Linfield in a testimonial for long-serving Blueman Niall Quinn on Saturday, July 1 (kick-off 1pm) at Windsor Park.
