Declan Gallagher believes his move to Aberdeen wasn't a 'good fit'.
The Blantyre man moved to the Pittodrie side last summer after his contract at Motherwell expired.
But the 31-year-old failed to recapture his best form last season as Aberdeen failed to secure a top six finish in the Scottish Premiership.
Gallagher was allowed to leave the Dons during the transfer window by boss Jim Goodwin. The Scotland international joined St Mirren on a two-year deal as he reunited with former Steelman boss Stephen Robinson at the Paisley side.
Gallagher made his competitive debut for the Buddies in their 1-0 defeat to Arbroath in the Premier Sports Cup on Saturday.
Speaking after the game, the centre-back rejected suggestions that he wasn't good enough for Aberdeen as he expressed his delight at joining St Mirren.
“Everything was up in the air when I was at Aberdeen," he told the Daily Record. "It was a stop-start season for me. There was a lot of talk about me not being good enough for Aberdeen, but that’s just nonsense.
“I’ve got nine international caps for Scotland already. There’s no way you can do that and not be good enough to go and play at Aberdeen.
“It wasn’t a good fit but I’m delighted to be here at St Mirren.”
