St Johnstone fan who shouted bigoted slur at Celtic supporters on bus is banned from matches

A fan who ran on to a Celtic supporters bus and shouted "dirty F****n bastards" has been banned from attending football matches for 12 months.

St Johnstone supporter Bailey Netherington was told he had been fortunate that there were no Celtic supporters on the bus to hear his sectarian taunts.

Perth Sheriff Court was told that Netherington was drunk as he pulled off the stunt at McDiarmid Park on a day when his team lost 4-1 to Celtic.

Netherington, 21, of Tulloch Place, Perth, admitted shouting, swearing and uttering sectarian remarks at McDiarmid Park in Perth on February 5, 2023.

Sheriff William Wood placed Netherington under supervision for four months and ordered him to carry out 120 hours unpaid work in the community.

He was also made subject to a 12-month football banning order and Sheriff Wood told him: "The outcome could have been very different for you."

The court was told that Netherington shouted the bigoted phrase a number of times, but it was only heard by the coach driver as there were no Celtic supporters on the bus.
