The overall performance of Mysuru district in the SSLC examination, the results of which were announced on Monday, has seen a marginal drop when compared to last year’s results, with the district securing a pass percentage of 89.75. In 2022, the district had achieved a pass percentage of 91.38, standing at 16th place in the State.
Yet, the results are encouraging since the performance of students from the government schools was impressive, with about 39 schools securing 100 per cent results.
Out of 34,991 students who appeared for the examination in 2022-23, 31,405 students, including 18,100 boys and 18,015 girls, have passed. Like last year, girls have outshined boys as 90.36 per cent of them passed against 84.94 per cent of boys.
The government schools have put up a remarkable performance securing a result of 88.73 per cent. Out of 15,556 children in 276 government schools who wrote the examination, 13,804 students have passed.
Out of 7,315 students from 133 aided schools, 6,467 have passed with a pass percentage of 88.40. Among the unaided schools, 11,134 students have passed the examination out of 12,120 who appeared from 271 schools. In total, students from 680 schools in the district had appeared for the examination.
While one student scored 623 out of 625 marks, three students have secured 621 marks and six students secured 620 marks. Last year, six students had secured 625 out of 625. Compared to the results of 2022, the number of students scoring above 620 is less.
In the first language, 625 students scored 125 marks while in second and third languages, 115 students and 282 students scored the maximum marks. As many as 37 students scored 100 out of 100 marks in Mathematics.
Rural students
Like last year, the rural students have outperformed their urban counterparts. This year, the performance of the rural students has exceeded with a pass percentage of 92.87 – 18,527 students passed out of 19,950 who wrote the exam.
The pass percentage of urban students is 89.54 – 14,485 have cleared the examination out of 16,178.
A total of 84.19 per cent students from Kannada medium and 97.24 per cent students from English medium cleared the examination.
As many as 1,803 students have got ‘A’ plus grade results (90-100 per cent) while 5,803 students got ‘A’ grade results (80-90).
In the district, Periyapatna taluk stands first with 96.17 per cent results followed by Mysuru rural with 95.35 and Hunsur with 95.13.
The results of other taluks are: H.D Kote 92.71; Nanjangud 91.65; T. Narsipur 89.93; Mysuru South 87.05; Mysuru North 82.80; and K.R. Nagar 79.28.
As many as 39 government schools have secured 100 per cent results; 14 aided and 75 unaided schools secured 100 per cent results. Interestingly, there are no schools with zero percent results this year.
Deputy Director of Public Instruction Ramachandra Raje Urs said the pass percentage has dropped a little though all efforts had been made to ensure 95 per cent results.
The official, however, said the results were still encouraging and the efforts would be made to place the district among the top ten in next year’s examination.
The heads and teachers of schools in Mysuru whose students scored top marks, including Vijaya Vittala School, Sadvidya High School and Marimallappa’s School celebrated the students’ success by offering them sweets. They were felicitated too in recognition of their efforts for scoring above 620 marks.
