Netflix has teased a new trailer for its highly anticipated Squid Game season 2.
The first series of the South Korean survival thriller horror quickly became the world’s most watched show after it debuted in September 2021.
It currently has more than 2.2 billion hours viewed, which equates to approximately 265 million views according to Netflix’s all-time top TV chart.
While show creator, writer and director Hwang Dong-hyuk had not initially planned one, a follow up was a financial no-brainer for everyone involved.
The second series will drop globally on the streaming giant on December 26, just in time for a Boxing Day binge watch.
Set three years after Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) AKA Player 456, won Squid Game, he has given up on the idea of starting a new life in the United States and is determined to bring down the deadly initiative.
The new trailer sees him locked in a tense battle with the shadowy Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) as he requests to go back into the game.
When he gets his wish, Gi-hun finds himself in another life-or-death game with new participants gathered to win the prize of 45.6 billion won.
The clip introduces new cast members Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-uk, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, and Jo Yu-ri who bring fresh intrigue and complexity to the world of Squid Game.
“As alliances shift and rivalries ignite, Squid Game Season 2 raises the stakes in ways fans could never have imagined,” a press release teases.
It was previously announced that “Squid Game” would return for a third season, which will also be the show’s last.
