British rock group Squeeze were forced to call off a performance in the United States after a venue worker was fatally crushed beneath their tour bus.
The band, who are currently on tour in the US, had been scheduled to play at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts in Vienna, VA, with the incident occurring in the venue’s parking lot.
Local police told the station FOX 5 DC that the individual, who has not been identified, was working under the bus when a supporting apparatus failed, causing the vehicle to collapse on top of them. They later died from their injuries.
Squeeze confirmed the cancellation of the event, which was set to take place on Thursday at 7:30pm local time, in a public statement.
The band said: "Squeeze are deeply saddened and shocked by an incident that occurred at the venue earlier today, which resulted in the loss of a life.
"After discussions with the venue and the relevant authorities, the decision was made to cancel this evening’s performance.
"We will work with the promoter and venue regarding the possibility of rescheduling the show and will communicate further information to ticket holders as soon as it is available.
"Our thoughts remain with everyone affected by this tragic event."
A statement published on social media by Wolf Trap National Park stated: "There was an accident involving a member of the community at Wolf Trap National Park today, tragically resulting in a loss of life.
"Out of respect, tonight’s show has been canceled."
Squeeze formed in London during the 1970s and rose to fame with hit tracks such as “Cool For Cats”, “Up The Junction” and “Labelled With Love”.
Fronted by the songwriting duo Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford, the band has experienced numerous lineup shifts, with more than 30 musicians featuring as members over the years, including pianist and TV presenter Jools Holland.
They are next due to play the Rock Music Center in Huber Heights, Ohio on Friday, followed by an appearance at the Ravinia Festival in Highland Park, Illinois on Saturday.
Their 16th studio release, Trixies, came out in March 2026.
