A pair of alleged squatters, who used a Shake Shack receipt to prove their residency to occupy a $930,000 home in Queens, New York, have abandoned suing the lawful owners after refusing to leave the property for months.
Attorney Rizpah Morrow stated that the case was discontinued by the squatters themselves, indicating that their evidence was not strong. Morrow expressed concern over the misuse of the court system, emphasizing the need for court intervention for legitimate cases involving tenants in need.
The incident involving the Shake Shack squatters was described as a 'real abuse' of the court process by Morrow, who highlighted the lack of terms or conditions imposed by the judge when the case was discontinued.
The squatters, identified as Lance Hunt Jr. and Rondie L. Francis, were initially discovered by Top Nest Properties broker Ejona Bardhi Shyti in March residing in a Queens property managed by owners Juliya Fulman and Denis Kurlyand.
