Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama Makes NBA History During Battle With Chet Holmgren, Thunder

Victor Wembanyama’s prolific rookie season continued Thursday night as the San Antonio Spurs star led his team to victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder, 132–118.

It was yet another special night for the No. 1 pick, as he recorded some impressive NBA history during the victory, which snapped both a six-game Thunder winning streak and a five-game losing skid for the Spurs.

Wembanyama ended the night with 28 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists and five blocks while knocking down five threes. In doing so, the 20-year-old became the first player in league history to record a game with 25-plus points, 10-plus rebounds, five or more assists, five or more blocks, and five or more three-pointers, per Andrew Lopez of ESPN

San Antonio’s prized rookie has been dominant on both ends of the floor and is truly coming into his own during the second half of the season. He leads the league in blocks and has now recorded 24 in just five games since the All-Star break, including an impressive rejection on a mid-range jump shot from Chet Holmgren.

His performance on Thursday night should give him an edge in the Rookie of the Year battle, of which he and Holmgren are at the forefront. Holmgren also had a strong night with 23 points, seven rebounds and five assists, but Wembanyama and the Spurs still came away with a win.
