The city of Springfield has become the subject of national attention following unsubstantiated claims about the city's Haitian immigrant community purported by former President Trump and his running mate, J.D. Vance.

"In Springfield, they're eating the dogs, the people that came in, they're eating the cats," said Trump on-stage at the presidential debate hosted by ABC News. "They're eating the pets of the people that live there."

The Springfield Police Division have received no reports of abducted pets.

The manager of the restaurant, Romane Pierre, talked to the Springfield News-Sun about how his restaurant became a target for prank calls following the presidential debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.

"Yesterday some people call, I think they make some joke, ask if we have cat, dog. I say 'We don't sell that. We sell chicken fish, goat pork, rice, beans,'" said Pierre. "I know my people — dogs, cats — we don't do that in Haiti."

"A lot of American people come here to try the food. They say 'Don't worry, we are with you,'" Pierre continued.

Members of the local community have also taken to social media to document the recent support the restaurant has received.

"What a wonderful event tonight ! The Haitian restaurant, Rose Goute Creole, in Springfield was delicious." wrote one Facebook user. "New friend, Bernald, was a wealth of information on the Haitian experience and was quite reassuring that there is not a war on pets etc. in the city. There is so much backstory to this that is fascinating and that story is forthcoming. "
