Spotify has released a new feature, Playlist in a Bottle, that allows users to create their very own music time capsule to open next year.

Just a month after Spotify Wrapped 2022 was released, which had music fans reflecting on the year just gone, the new feature invites users to look forward to the year ahead.

The prompts invite users to imagine what they’ll be listening to this summer, or which artists they hope to see live in 2023.

Then, next year, Spotify users will be able to open their “playlist in a bottle,” and see what came true.

Find out how to access the feature and create your very own digital time capsule below.

How to access Spotify’s Playlist in a Bottle feature

To access Spotify’s Playlist in a Bottle feature, make sure your app is up to date, then head to spotify.com/playlistinabottle on your smartphone.

Spotify users will only have until the end of January to access the feature.

How does Spotify’s Playlist in a Bottle feature work?

Spotify will first invite you to choose your time capsule: an actual bottle, a tiny little pocket of your jeans, a gumball machine, a lunch box, a teddy bear, or an acorn.

Next, it will ask you a series of prompts which you have to answer with a song.

The prompts include the following:

  • A song you’d pay to hear for the first time again
  • A song you want to hear live this year
  • A song that won’t make any sense a year from now
  • A song that’s going to be this summer’s anthem
  • A song that’s going to be a classic by next year
  • A song you’re convinced was written about you

Users have to answer at least three prompts by typing in their song or allowing Spotify to randomly choose a song for them.

Spotify will then seal their playlist until January 2024, when it will reveal the songs and remind the music fan of how they were feeling in January 2023.
